Association of Financial Mutuals

The Association of Financial Mutuals is the trade body that represents mutual and not-for-profit insurers, friendly societies and other financial mutuals across the UK.

A financial mutual is an organisation that supplies financial services products, and which is owned by its customers, or members. That means there are no shareholders to pay dividends to or account to, and a mutual can concentrate entirely on delivering products and services that best meet the needs of its customers. Between them, mutual and not-for-profit insurers manage the savings, pensions, protection and healthcare needs of over 30 million people in the UK and Ireland, annual premium income of £19.6 billion, and nearly 30,000 employees (source:

AFM is committed to protecting and progressing the principles of mutuality through the promotion of best practice and a commitment to working together and in the interest of members, customers and other stakeholders. Find out more by visiting
